The Washington Monument in Washington, DC is a beautiful structure and a great monument to our first President. However, it is not the only large obelisk to a famous person here in the U.S. I now present to you
THE JEFFERSON DAVIS MONUMENT
Here it is rising above the trees.

The Jefferson Davis Monument
The tablet says that it is the second highest monument to a person in the U.S. after the Washington Monument.

Tablet describing the Monument.
The grounds of this monument are very well kept and finely mowed. Looking towards the monument, you could be anywhere in the
U.S. in a well traveled tourist attraction, but when you turn around...

This is what you see directly across the road from the monument and tablet, 65' away.
When I stumbled on this place, I had some trouble with it. It seemed that there was money enough to maintain this large park and monument, but directly across the road was squalor. I don't get it.
This monument is well worth seeing. It's located in Fairview, KY. which is close to Hopkinsville. Thanks go out to Tom Brown for setting me straight about its location.
